How to read a finance privacy page

Published 2026-07-30

Finance sites handle more personal information than almost any other consumer category, and the privacy page is where the shape of that becomes visible. Four questions tell you what one is really describing — including this site’s.

One: what happens before you submit anything?

Meaningful collection often begins on page load, not on submit. Analytics, advertising pixels and remarketing tags fire immediately; scripts and fonts loaded from another company’s servers disclose your visit to that company.

A quick test: does the page load resources from domains you do not recognise? Self-hosted fonts and first-party assets mean reading a page stays between you and the site.

Two: what does “share with our partners” mean here?

In this category, “partners” frequently means lenders and lead buyers, and “share” is doing a lot of work.

The clarifying question: does the site earn money when your details reach a third party? If it does, the privacy page is describing a supply chain, and it is worth reading closely to see where you sit in it.

Three: what does the chat widget do with the conversation?

Chat widgets are the easiest thing to overlook. A message sent to one is processed to produce a reply and is often retained so a person can review or continue it — which is reasonable and normal, and worth knowing in advance rather than afterwards.

The practical rule regardless of the site: keep identity documents, account numbers and tax file numbers out of a chat window. They are rarely needed for a general question and they are the most sensitive thing you could put there.

Four: can you actually exercise the rights it lists?

Australian privacy law gives rights of access and correction. A policy that lists them alongside a working contact address is offering something usable; one that routes you through an account you cannot create is not.

The regulator is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, which publishes what those rights cover and how to complain.

Applying it here

On this site the finder evaluates its decision table in your browser, so your selections stay with you; the only record that can exist is a chat conversation you choose to start, and one email to contact@loanhub.au removes it. The full page sets that out.
